When the sun tickles us with its first rays, all glossy magazines are concerned with one major topic (aside from stories such as “How to Lose 10 Pounds in 7 days”.):
the current fashion trends for our favorite time of the year.
They always try to convince us to buy the latest, up-to-date clothes, but fail to admit that all summer trends are basically the same every year.
(I’m not even going to deal with the reoccuring “trend” of men in sandals paired with white tennis socks. This would be too frustrating and a waste of time. There are things that you just cannot change. Deal with it!)
So for us women, it is basically maxi-hippie-ethno dresses paired with ancient-Rome/gladiator inspired sandals, and nude colors. Wow, sounds so new to me…
Have fashion designers ever heard of innovation?
And, as always, 90% of all women I encounter in the streets tend to cover their pretty faces with HUMUNGOUS sunglasses that cover the whole visage. What a pity!
My response to the current jumpsuit mania (of course paired with Carrie Bradshaw inspired Manolo Blahniks), making even gorgeous women look like giant babies, and the hype about boyfriend jeans:
Note 1: You are not and never will be an icon like Sarah Jessica Parker.
Note 2: Just because Katie Holmes steals Tom’s Jeans, doesn’t mean we look great in our sweetheart’s pants.
Let me give you a piece of advice: put on a shirt, some shorts and flip-flops and don’t waste your time with always wanting to chase the latest trends.
Enjoy the sunshine!
For your ladies out there who are into bone-breaking heels, check out the latest shoe trends for 2009!
But don’t let me pay your stay in hospital…
I love your style – it makes me laugh so hard :D Especially, because you’re writing in a very figurative way – just imagining my “humungous” sunglasses, although I still like them ;)
I totally agree to the jumpsuit thing – this sucks! Well observed!
Go on and keep me in the loop!
how can i put it: i enjoyed reading your blog even though i am not a woman! ;-) but i do know (of) sarah jessica parker! you write well, it’s a joy reading your stuff!
nice article for a start, I think! Chasing after fashion trends is just awfully shallow and unimportant, I think :-)
so please continue to go after these uninnovative fashion designers!
Besides: The best (and maybe only true) fashion is always the classic, everlasting stuff- like a simple, black dress, pearls, blouses, jeans, or a nice shirt for men. But thats just my opinion- and everyone should privately wear the clothes he/she likes, and not let the “latest fashion” wear them.

I totally agree concerning the “new” trends and the weird styles with huge sunglasses and really ugly looking pants etc. I think every woman should have her own style, no matter what the so called “trend” may be. Still it’s interesting to see what VIPs wear.^^
